Local news website La Nacion reports that the 37-year-old victim was stabbed and kicked in a fight in a restaurant in the city of Madrid.
The victim was left bleeding and bruised, and police were called to the scene.
The attacker was later arrested and charged with murder.
The incident happened at a bar in the town of Malaga on Saturday night.
Police say the victim was celebrating his birthday with friends when he got into a fight with two men who were throwing punches.
One of the men stabbed the victim with a knife and the other struck him with a brick, a local newspaper reported.
A woman was also stabbed during the attack, but was not seriously hurt.
The attacker was detained and later arrested.
The prosecutor’s office will decide whether the attack was terrorism-related.
A spokesperson for the Madrid Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “In the first incident in Malaga, an innocent person was subjected to a crime.
Today, another innocent person lost his life because of the violence which took place in Malagas Bar and Restaurant.”
